Dr. Scott C. Lucas
Department Head and Professor of English
Professor Scott Lucas received his B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley and his Ph.D. from Duke University. Lucas’s specialty is the literature and culture of Renaissance England, and he has written numerous articles on the intersections of literature, politics, and religion in sixteenth-century English writings. In 2009, he published his first book, A Mirror for Magistrates and the Politics of English Reformation, a study of perhaps the most widely read work of political literature of the Tudor period. His most recent book is A Mirror for Magistrates: A Modernized and Annotated Edition (Cambridge University Press, 2019).
