Writing Lab
The Angela W. Williams Student Success Center’s Writing Lab works with cadets, day and evening undergraduates, veteran students, and graduate students in all disciplines. Our goal is to help students become more effective and confident writers. Both peer and professional tutors support this goal by providing tailored feedback for specific assignments, offering a range of writing strategies, and helping students view writing as a process. Students are encouraged to visit the Writing Lab for assistance with:
- Brainstorming
- Researching
- Outlining
- Content Development
- Revising
- Proofreading
- Formatting (MLA, APA, Chicago, Turbian IEEE)
The Writing Lab is a student-centered support service that encourages learning and development. For this reason, tutors will not simply edit a paper for a student. It is our expectation that both the student and the tutor will engage actively in the appointment.
The Writing Lab provides multiple services. We offer students one-on-one consultations on an appointment or walk-in basis. The Writing Lab also facilitates group workshops throughout the year. These workshops are advertised on the Student Success Center’s webpage. Instructors can schedule in-class guest lectures or workshops.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I schedule a Writing Lab appointment?
To schedule an appointment, you will need to create a WC Online account. Please see the directions on the Student Success Center’s webpage. Once students have a WC Online account, they can select an available appointment with a tutor.
Each tutor has his or her areas of expertise, which are included in each tutor’s WC Online description. We encourage students to review these descriptions before confirming their appointment. We hope that students will use these descriptions to select the tutor who is the best fit for the purpose of the Writing Lab appointment.
What occurs during a typical Writing Lab appointment?
Writing lab appointments are one-on-one consultations between a student and a tutor. Appointments are approximately fifty minutes. At the beginning of the appointment, the student and tutor determine the session’s objectives. Next, they work together to meet these objectives. All appointments are student-centered, and tutors act as a collaborative guide to our student-writers. At the end of an appointment, students will exit with an understanding of how to continue the writing process for the assignment.
Will I be charged a fee for using the Writing Lab?
There is no fee. Students can take advantage of all Student Success Center services without any additional costs.
How do I schedule an in-class guest lecture or workshop?
In addition to one-on-one tutoring services, the Writing Lab hosts workshops and prepares guest lectures. Instructors can contact Dr. Lindsey Spring to schedule guest lectures and in-class workshops.
To see descriptions of past workshop and lecture topics, please visit the “Faculty Information” tab.
