Disability Services
The Angela W. Williams Student Success Center/Services for Students with Disabilities (SSC) mission is to create an accessible and inclusive environment for all students at The Citadel. Our primary objective is to provide everyone equal access to campus programs and activities.
The office helps students with learning, physical, health, or psychiatric disabilities manage the varying demands of the Citadel experience. We recognize that students with disabilities face the same challenges as every student, plus the challenges that relate to the impact of their disability. Because of this, we work in partnership with faculty and staff to facilitate an inclusive environment.
In addition to serving students, the staff assists the Citadel community in making programs, services, and activities accessible to everyone. Register with Services for Students with Disabilities
To register with Services for Students with Disabilities, students follow the steps outlined below. Students should submit their application and documentation and set up an initial meeting as early as possible.
New Students to Receive Accommodations
Students who have been accepted to The Citadel and need access to accommodations and support will need to officially register with Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD). Students must submit an application and supportive documentation to SSD to coordinate and approve accommodations.
Who Should Apply for Services?
- ADD/ADHD
- Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
- Chronic Health Conditions ( e.g., diabetes, Crohn’s, migraines, and other auto-immune related conditions)
- Learning Disabilities (e.g., dyslexia, dyscalculia, reading, written expression, etc.)
- Mental Health Conditions (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc.)
- Physical Disabilities
- Sensory Disabilities ( e.g., vision and hearing)
Who Can Apply for Services?
- Students who have been admitted to The Citadel
- Students who have a documented disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities
- Students who may have had accommodations previously in high school or at another college ( e.g., IEP or 504 plan)
- Students who are a client of Vocational Rehabilitation or Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E)
Application Process
Students requesting reasonable accommodations and/or services must submit documentation of a disabling condition to verify eligibility. Students are required to submit documentation regarding the diagnosis/diagnoses that demonstrate a disability covered under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 as amended (2008).

Steps to Register with SSD
The student seeking accommodations should complete the application and not a parent or guardian.

Submit Documentation
Once the application has been submitted, the student can schedule a meeting to discuss accommodations, procedures, and services. Appointments may be scheduled by emailing disabilityservices@citadel.edu. While documentation is not required to schedule the meeting, we encourage students to submit their documentation as soon as possible.

Meet with Disability Services
After the meeting, students who have been approved for accommodations will have access to AIM, our Disability Case Management System. From there, the student can request their accommodation letter be emailed to their faculty. You do not have to re-register with our office each semester, but students must request their accommodation letters through AIM be sent to their faculty each semester in which they are enrolled. It is highly recommended that students communicate via email or in-person with their instructors to discuss the arrangements for receiving accommodations. Instructors do not have to provide accommodations to students if they have not been informed of the need in a timely manner.
