Kevin Martin Free received his Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) from the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) in 2014, and currently teaches digital media at The Citadel as a visiting professor. His M.F.A. thesis explored identity through a series of still photographic details that form a more complete portrait, giving the viewer intimate insight into the subject, an analysis he termed an “expanded portrait”.
Preceding his return to academia, Mr. Free had a career spanning more than 25 years in the photographic industry. This career included professional work as a commercial photographer, wedding/portrait photographer, documentary photographer, photographic lab specialist, and fine art photographer. Currently, his work consists of a continuing exploration of identity through the still photograph and documentary work exploring the natural world.
